We were commissioned to carry out a Hydrological Assessment of this unique site.

Our studies included:
  • investigating the source of the water and how it flows through the site supporting the mire and wet woodland habitats

  • investigating the relationship between the semi-natural mire habitats and the ponds

  • studying the depth of peat which has been found to vary between 0.6m and 1.8m.
A most interesting characteristic of the site is the floating nature of the mire and wet woodland where the vegetation (including the rare cranberry) grows on a floating mat of Sphagnum bog mosses.
