Faced with a large wetland area with an intricate maze of pools, streams, swamps and marshes, it is important that surveys are undertaken that provide the necessary information for habitat management and monitoring.  
 
Using the concepts of hydro-ecology it is possible to devise a survey strategy that utilises survey time and resources effectively and with results that are carefully targeted to achieving the specific survey information needed for management and monitoring.
