Hydro-ecology is the study of wetland support systems. It provides a valuable approach to wetland management and impact assessment.

Hydro-ecology is the science of water in relation to wetland wildlife habitats and of how plant and animal communities interact with their supporting soil water, surface water and ground water systems.

Hydro-ecology is used to:

  • evaluate wetland systems
  • solve wetland management problems
  • design new wetlands
  • prepare sustainable drainage systems (SUDS)
  • provide wetland impact assessments
Hydro-ecology is an important tool when assessing how development of any kind might impact on wet land. The Agencies will need to be assured that development will not adversely affect ditches, streams, rivers, low lying wetland or exacerbate flooding.
Our work incorporates aspects of ecology, geomorphology, hydrology, pedology, geology, hydrogeology and hydrochemistry for governmental, non-governmental, development and building firms, commercial organisations and companies of all types.
